I have a Sony Xperia Z on PAYM o2 with 1gb internet allowance. The phone shows full signal with G data - but any attempt to use the internet will time out.
If the phone is showing 3g/H/H+ I can use the internet without any trouble. I've reset my apn using 2020 and it doesn't fix the 2g issue.
Any ideas?

So I spoke with an o2 Guru and they sent through updated connection settings - which appear to be different to the one that 2020 sent through. 2020 sent "PostPay internet", where as the guru sent "PostPay internet" and "PostPay GPRS" - which I assume is what 2g uses to access the data network.
Now I can load pages on 2g without an issue.

You really need a better signal than 2G for internet use, this is normal.
Check here for signal issues in your area:

Thanks for the replies - however that doesn't solve the issue. When I was on Orange I had no trouble with web pages loading using 2g - I appreciate it's slow and no good for intensive web browsing, but ok for checking email/facebook/twitter when I do not need a quick response time.
The thing is that I can't even load a web page at the moment using 2g - Chrome will throw "page cannot be displayed" and everything else just perpetually hangs.
So it seems there's an error with the phone/network handling 2g that I would like fixing.

I always regard it as a minor miracle if a Facebook page with a picture on it loads on 2G, it's a matter of luck.

Hmmm, I'm not convinced it should be that way - I should at least be able to load Google or a similar lightweight page, rather than having the page timeout and not load.
I guess I'll have to drop o2 a message and see what tech support can do.

As long as you can make calls I doubt that they can do anything.
Let is know what they say.
