I have given my PAC number to switch from GiffGaff to O2, and my old sim disconnected, showing "No Service". So I thought, great, the new SIM should work with my old number.

I put the SIM in, and it shows the temporary O2 number. When someone tries to call my old number it says "The number you have called is not recognised".

I have tried:

Resetting network settings (this is the closest I got - it showed my old number for a few minutes, but then changed back again to the temporary o2 number).
Turning off iMessage and FaceTime, powering off the phone for 10-15 minutes, and powering on again.

When I try to change the number and press "save" it just doesn't recognise this and reverts to the temporary number.

Super annoying!

You'll need a new blank sim card.

Pop in your local store with photo ID https://www.o2.co.uk/storelocator

Or contact O2 online, but in store is quicker and safer and will not result in a loss of service.

Right - but I went to a store just yesterday, so why didn't they give me a blank sim then?

I hope my number isn't lost!

Your number is fine @madeoutofsound

I can't answer why they didn't help yesterday. Maybe just couldn't be bothered?

So I went to the store, and it started receiving messages and calls by the time I got there. Typical haha.

The only thing that isn't working is iMessage. I'm hoping this should work in time too.

You'll need to be able to update your number in Settings >Phone >My Number before iMessage will register.

But if my number is now showing as the old number (as I wanted it to), is there still a need to update it? It's now correct. It's just that iMessage fails to activate.

iMessage often takes time to catch up with changes

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

@madeoutofsound

As long as your number is showing correct it will activate in a few days time.

Rebooting phone periodically can help.
