Upfront payment

I was buying an Apple Watch series 5 and the cost is £21 a month with £20 upfront. I payed the monthly cost no problem but when I have been sent a link to pay the upfront cost, I have to use the same card to pay and it rejects the payment. It says, “Sorry your card payment didn’t go through. Please try again.” Help?

Usually the upfront cost would be taken at the time you placed the order. 
I've never heard of a link been sent for payment before. Are you sure this is a genuine link from o2?

I'd definitely call customer service to check this.
