new samsung s3 activated but no o2 internet connection

Anonymous

My mum just got Samsung s3 I've activated it and unable to get o2 internet connection. Tried alternate APN settings and setting to default no joy. I find it ridiculous that these devices are not straight forward to use straight from the box. Any ideas would be appreciated otherwise its going back to shop because I'm already sick of it.

As I said, the problem was with your apn. I'm not sure who told you about S3's not accepting settings OTA but this is untrue. The S3 will read the settings off the SIM card. If the initial settings don't get picked up you can chose "Reset Network Settings" from the menu key. You can text "Active" to 2020, or you can enter them manually. Manual instructions here http://mobileguide.o2.co.uk/devices/device.jsp?deviceId=738&tab=8 which tell you to save after entering them and also to reboot to activate them wink

Have you texted ACTIVE to 2020? Normally saving the settings sent is a straight forward data connection. Reboot the phone after changing any settings.

Are you talking about data connection or phone signal for calling etc. New activations can sometimes take a while so some patience is required..... wink

Every thing works apart from data connection and it says its activated. I didn't text active to 2020 because it says on another website that it alters setting to pay and go.

The phones been activated for two days so I would of thought it would be fully operational by now. My mum will have to ring them up and see if they can sort it at their end.

If there are no local mast issues the issue must be with the apn's on your phone or data not activated on the account. I'd call CS first to check the account status is OK then go from there.

Finally got mobile working. Samsung s3 don't allow over the air settings so APN has to be inputted manually on these phones. I did this but failed to save it because no instructions to do so. APN settings can be found through Google and once settings have been put in you must press soft menu button bottom left corner and save them. Then your up and running hope this helps other newbies with same problem.
