Hi im out of contract on my hand set almost so can now choose a cheaper tariff - they offered me 50gigs a month for £20 which is cheaper than what i am paying whilst paying off my handset. But when I click "choose this option" it just takes me to a page saying basket is empty.
When I try change tariff by checking options on the change tariff page it does not show me the £20 a month / 50 gb - just the standard more expensive tariffs.
I want to stay with O2 on a data only plan and only 1 more payment left of my phone - so how can I get a better monthly deal as it doesnt seem to be working when I try on the site thanks D.

Use USwitch
https://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/compare/sim_only_deals/o2/
Choose the deal you want
This will automatically redirect you to the O2 website
Just follow the prompts and choose the UPGRADE option
Complete the deal and nothing on your account changes except the tariff at the new cheaper cost
Payment date is the same and your next bill will be at the cheaper rate and will be made up of the pro rata cost of your old tariff and your new tariff
The change should show in My O2 within 24 hours
Volt benefits will still apply as will possibly a 3 month extra such as Disney+

You are best waiting till your device plan is paid off then following the upgrade route to changed your tariff.
If you still have issues call the sales team on 0808 002 0202

I've noticed just recently, O2 have removed the option to 'UPGRADE NOW' on my sim only plan. Now it would cost me the whole of the remaining tariff to upgrade before contract end.
So @Dino1968 , if you want the cheaper tariff then make a payment early, to finish off your contract. You should then get the option to upgrade.
However, you will almost certainly get a much cheaper deal if you look at Uswitch.

I did think i could change the data plan today as im out of contract on that part now. O2 site and messages can be confusing and dont think I can stomach trying to call customer support - i remember last year calling them - waiting over 40 minutes only for someone not to understand my issue. I want to stay with o2 for data because they do offer one the best roaming packages and I travel allot - but will check Uswitch see what else could be on offer. cheers )

Uswitch will take you to O2 to complete your chosen tariff. The two I saw did offer free Roaming in Europe.
I know you said you don't want to call O2, however if you call the sales dept on 0800 081 0255
OR message them on Social Media -on Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter ( https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG) they should be able to help.
Best of luck.

Another option is for you to visit an O2 retail store :-
Store locator | O2 UK | Find Your Nearest O2 Store
They won't be as cheap as USwitch but at least you will be able to ask questions, get explanations, listen to answers and then make your decisions from an informed viewpoint.

Hi the deal they offered me on the page i go to from the link given in the text message - shows the reduced priced deal but when I click the prompt it just takes me to a page saying "your basket is empty" - and when I check the Change your tariff deals on my account it just shows the standard deals with no reduction. I wanted to take the £20 per month with 50gb / unlimited txt / calls ... but its not available under the standard tariff changes they offer on "change tariff" if that makes sense 😉 cheers.
