Why doesn’t google maps work when on roaming? I have both roaming and mobile data on and the APN set to mobile.o2.co.uk and 4G disabled. I’m currently getting 3G ok.

It should work.
Have you tried idata.o2.co.uk as your apn?

I’m in Madeira, in the region setting it is set to U.K. and looking at the others in the region setting Madeira is not shown so I can’t select it. Should I be looking somewhere else? Thanks

You don't need to change your region settings when roaming. If data is working OK your phone will pick up your location automatically. If you can find a wifi connection, see if it works on that as it will prove an error with your mobile data connection.

Hi

it had idata.o2.co.uk APN before I changed it to  mobile.o2.co.uk to get the roaming working as before the roaming wasn’t working. Google maps working when I’m connected to the hotel WiFi but not when I’m out or range, so not when I actually need it to work to help me find my way around.

Yes it works when I’m connected to hotel WiFi but not when I’m out and about 😞

Something wrong with your mobile data then.
Try both apn's but with 4g turned on along with roaming on too.
Also experiment by going into networks and selecting a different network manually off the list.

@Stephaniefay You actually don't need your data on at all. You can download a map of the area using WiFi in the hotel and then use the map offline when you're out and about. Here's a how-to for iPhone and Android:
