Not receiving texts when back in range

My wife and I have both switched to O2 from T-Mobile and use HTC One Xs. My wife's office has poor reception, meaning that she frequently doesn't have a network connection when in certain areas at work.

On T-Mobile, I was able to send her a text when she was out of network range, and as soon as she came back within range, she would receive the text. However, now that we're on O2, the message doesn't arrive when she comes back within the signal area.

When we first realised that she wasn't receiving my texts, I sent her a test message at 11:30pm, a full 8.5 hours after she finished work and came back into range. This arrived instantly, and was rapidly followed by the messages I had sent her during the day. We've done the same text several times since then, and the same thing happens - she doesn't receive my messages until I send her another one.

This is obviously incredibly unhelpful. Presumably it means that O2 doesn't attempt to resend the messages, but is it a setting on our individual accounts or is it a global problem on O2?

It really just depends on how good the signal is. If you are in a poor coverage area you will struggle unfortunately. Just double check in settings >more >mobile networks that network selection is set to auto and that's about all you can do.

The network will attempt to resend messages quickly at first, say every 5 mins but if it fails repeatedly will drop to say every hour. You might find if you restart the phone when you are back in signal range they will come through quicker.

Restart your phone after a few minutes & it should go back to normal

Hmmm.

I can see that that might work, but unfortunately it's not really a very user-friendly solution. There are dead spots and live spots in her office, and it's not really practical to keep rebooting her phone on the off chance that someone's sent her a text.

Is there no way of getting it to retry more often? After all, the fact that when we first discovered this problem she had been within network range for at least 8.5 hours would imply that there's something dodgy going on.
