Recently joined o2 but my data connection is not working, text and voice are fine but data has not activated

What make of phone do you have?
If Android

Try resetting your network connections first.
Next text the word "active" to 2020 and save the settings that get sent back.
Check you have mobile data activated in settings.
If still not working you'll need to call customer service.

Or advice from an O2 Guru regarding a way to get through:
If you call 202, when it comes to the reason you are calling stay silent for 15 seconds and you will be taken to the keypad options.
Press 2 for Everything Else
Press 5 for More Options
Press 7 for Anything Else which will put you though to someone.
Say "Upgrade", "Lost/Stolen" or "Fraud" if you have to, to get put through to someone.

I did call o2 Customer Services and after checking many things it may be that the profile of two of the three phones came across in the porting incorrectly as they show Android devices where the third one which works fine shows as iPhone, which they all are. Hoping by changing them back to iPhone in the system they may now correct themselves if not will follow your steps.
