I received a phonecall about a week ago offering me a phone upgrade. They knew my address but, shamefully, I did furnish them with my date of birth. They said they were working for Carphone Warehouse. I was offered an iPhone 6 which would be confirmed in a week. Well. No email has arrived and no phone. No record on my O2 page. I have contacted Carphone Warehouse this morning but thought I would see if I wasn't alone, or if there was a slight possibility that it wasn't a scam and that my phone would arrive soon!

I've just spoken to CPW - it was a kosher company, but they've sent the phone to my old address - we moved recently! He says once the phone is returned then it will be resent out to my new address. PHEW! I will ring back in two days time for an update. Thanks for your advice guys!

Hi
O2 do use trusted partners that try to get people to upgrade through them.
General rule of thumb is not to upgrade this way but by your myo2 , ringing 202 or via a high street shop so you can fully check out all the deals.
Your doing right by checking with CPW - what have they said ?
and you could check with o2 on 202 to check your account ,and also check any spam in box to see if any e mail has arrived there.
Did you give any bank details ?

As said, keep a careful eye on your accounts and on My O2. Make sure no details have changed especially your address.
Have you got the number of the incoming call, that may help us as to whether this is a legitimate trusted partner.

No need to feel silly and as long as they have no account details you should be OK.
I firm polite no usually works with these people. I do have a little sympathy with them, after all this is their effort to make a living but beware of false promises and out and out lies.

Cardinal rule should be never give information to cold callers. Hopefully a lesson learned without any damage. You can register your number here to stop at least some of these types of calls, if you haven't done so already:

It's not foolproof, but it does prevent some getting through.
