Anyone know how much O2 charged for data roaming in the US? Is there a fixed daily fee as for EU countries?

It's £6 per mb http://international.o2.co.uk/internationaltariffs/travelling_abroad
No packages unfortunately.

Three do a "feel at home" deal for the USA or you could get a local sim whilst out there.

You would need to make sure your phone is unlocked for the Three or local sim. Do it via My O2.

O2's data roaming charges for the US are, in a word, extortionate. Do as @MI5 and @jonsie have advised.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2
