4G abroad in the EU (roaming)

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I’m trying to get 4G to work when abroad in the EU. Currently my phone only works on 3G when roaming.

  • My 4G works fine in the UK.
  • I have tried 4G in many cities in many countries, it never works. My friends (also roaming) have 4G and it works fine.
  • I have tried manually switching networks, which works, but only ever 3G, not 4G.
  • I have contacted O2 support many times and followed their troubleshooting steps — reset network settings, turn roaming on and off, ensure 4G is on, reset phone, etc. They always say it’s definitely fixed but never has worked.
  • I have an iPhone 6S.
  • 3G is so slow and annoying...

Any tips would be great!

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous O2 don't have any 4G roaming agreements abroad. So you will only ever get 3G

Hope that helps...

Interesting that customer service have trouble shooting tips for that issue slight_smile

However, the only tip with guaranteed success is to move to EE or Vodafone.

Thanks for that guys! It would be good if O2 support actually knew that, I’ve spoken to multiple people who promised it should work.

Good thing is my contract is up so sounds like a good reason to switch to Vodafone.

Thanks again!

That’s great news mate.
@Wa10 told us about the deal with Telefonica in Germany, but didn’t know that others were coming too.
Finally o2 joins the 21st century slight_smile
