Transfer from pay monthly sim-only to PAYG rolling plan

I've been on a SIM-only O2 tariff for years since the handset was paid off and since changed devices and was a great deal at the time, however all of the new sim-only pay monthly deals on offer cost more than my current tariff do because they have far more data.

However, I've found from the rolling plans the cheapest 10GB one would be a few pounds cheaper per month than what I'm paying now and have ten times the data allowance. Is the rolling plan functionally the same as the pay monthly one and if so, how do I transfer my current number to it? The fixed term elapsed long ago so there's no termination fees that I'm aware of.

@Sovereign01

Benefit by staying on a monthly contract with non of the PAYG negatives.

Use USwitch.......
https://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/compare/sim_only_deals/o2/
Choose the deal you want
This will automatically redirect you to the O2 website
Just follow the prompts and choose the UPGRADE option
Complete the deal and nothing on your account changes except the tariff at the new cheaper cost
Payment date is the same and your next bill will be at a cheaper rate and will be made up of the pro rata cost of your old tariff and your new tariff
The change should show in My O2 within 24 hours
Volt benefits will still apply as will possibly a 3 month extra such as Disney+

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Thanks, I saw the guide and wondered if this meant I needed to buy the separate PAY-G SIM first, and would it come with its own number? Is requesting the migration done the same as going the other way, by dialling 202 or is it different?

The SIM would come with its own number. Migration would be separate and involves moving your present number to the new SIM.

Quite frankly O2 PAYG is a second rate service. No 5G or 4G calling (We hope that will change) For  £10 per month there are better deals out there

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

I didn't think of looking at whether it had 4/5G, I should have known there would be a catch. According to the O2 website:

"£10 Rolling plan

Unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 10GB of 2G/3G/4G data for £10 each month. Includes data rollover of up to 10GB a month, subject to caps."

So it has 4G but not 5G, which because I bought a 5G handset as an attempt to future-proof my coverage is significant. Looks like I'll need to keep looking into this.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed! I don't know why the cheapest & best deal with O2 wasn't on the O2 website, I just made the switch so if it goes through it should shave £10 off the monthly bill, fingers crossed! 😁

They are commission based sales @Sovereign01 and sites such as uswitch pass some of their commission on to get the sale.
