Hello, my Mum got a text today to say that 'Text and Web' the tariff she is on will be discontinued next year and will change to Standard PAYG Plus. For this you get 0 mins, 3000 texts, 500mb of data and 50 MMS messages for £10 a month.
My question is can I also change to this on my spare phone which has standard rate Talkalot. On this phone which I don't use a lot I am on standard rates, but the new tariff for Mum's phone looks better.
How do I get this Standard PAYG Plus on my phone?

There are better things on offer for £10 per month.
500MB for for that price is outrageous.

Depends on your needs.
50mms is worth £32.50 at current rates.

Just get a PAC and move to Spusu for £2.90 per month your mum would get 1GB of Data, Unlimited Minutes and Text and excellent customer services...

Thanks for your replies. There will be some O2 tariff changes next year. Here's the link that was sent to Mum by O2.

I am not sure whether that page indicates the demise of Classic PAYG ? It does not seem to be mentioned but we do have :-
That's very different to calls at 3 pence per minute, text messages at 2 pence each and data at 1 pence per Mb.

Hi @Oxonian I remember when O2 was only 25p per minute for the first 3 minutes and only 5p thereafter and sending texts was only 10p on standard rates. That was when I first joined O2 in 2006 and I felt I was getting a bargain. But now O2 feels really expensive on standard rates alone.

Good evening @koala321
When I joined the then BT Cellnet in about 1994, there was not the range of tariffs that have emerged more recently and, of course, mobile data had not even been thought of.
I paid £20 per month for a basic Nokia handset, 200 minutes and 500 texts per month. I actually remained on that tariff until it was withdrawn when data became important. in the 1990s, that represented a good deal.
You say that ".....O2 feels really expensive on standard rates alone". What is that in comparison with ? Other O2 tariffs ? Other networks ?
I actually feel that mobile telephony in 2024 is fabulous value, both compared with thirty years ago and compared with the cost of landlines some thirty, forty and fifty years ago. We all like to moan about price rises but I still believe that if you take, for example, a £10 Big Bundle, you get an awful lot for the price of a couple of pints of beer.
