Simple answer: Not available on PAYG

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

@OmarRiaz @Enlli

The other week I got a new replacement SIM card for my PAYG phone. I noticed Call Waiting was switched on on the new card by  default. When I selected 'check status' to see if it was active it was! I switched it off as I don't need it. But when I checked the Call Waiting option again by selecting 'check status' it said

'Call Waiting'

Voice Call

Provided, not registered

So I thought to myself, hmm maybe I should message the Community and ask them if Call Waiting is available on PAYG mobile phones. But @OmarRiaz has read my mind and beat me to it!

@Enlli Does the 'Provided' bit I got from Call Waiting in 'check status' mean I can use it? Usually the 'check status' option for Call Waiting doesn't work.

Does anybody use Call Waiting? And let's suppose it did work, what happens if someone rang my phone when I was on the phone to somebody else? Does switching it on override 'Divert Calls if busy' meaning if someone called while I was on the phone to somebody else they wouldn't get Voicemail anymore? What do they get instead? Would it be the usual ringing or a message that I was on the phone to somebody else?

@koala321

I'm not PAYG so cannot say if it is available or not, however, I do use it on my contract.

If someone calls you get a beep warning that someone is calling and waiting and you get the options on screen to either answer new call and put current call on hold, answer and cancel current call or send new call to voicemail. If you do nothing it will send the new call to voicemail after the prescribed number of rings.

Why not turn it on and see if it works so we know for sure?

There are a number of features @OmarRiaz and @koala321 that appear to be available on O2 PAYG but aren't. Wi-Fi Calling is one example that will illuminate on my handset but is not actually available.

I think that this is like turning a tap on. If the pipe leading from the tap is not connected to the water main, you will not get any water. Similarly, Wi-Fi Calling has to be enabled both on the handset and at O2's end too - which it isn't for PAYG customers. 👍

Hi @MI5 I could turn it on but it could be a while before anyone actually rings me when I'm on the phone to somebody else. My phone doesn't ring a great deal anyway and the chances anyone would ring when I'm on the phone to somebody else are slim. If they do ring I'd much rather they left a voicemail message straight off. But thanks anyway @MI5 😀 Do you find Call Waiting useful? Also is it free or are you charged when you use it?

Hi @Oxonian I can't even find any WiFi Calling options on my Android. I'm on Android 14. That is probably because it's PAYG, as you say. 😀

@koala321 It's free to use but I guess only useful if you get lots of calls, like for a business phone.
