I have just got a Pay as you Go sim with O2 for use on my old phone which I am keeping for emergencies.  The balance has gone down twice unexpectedly (compared to usage - a 1m phone call out and a text out to ensure it was working).  How do i find out was transactions are reducing my balance (my phone is connected to my home wi fi network and has only been at home since the sim card went in yesterday) in order to guage what is causing the charges to the account that I am not anticipating?

If you are just wanting a phone for occasional use then O2 PAYG may not be right for you

There are two tariffs. Big Bundles and a Rolling Plan

https://www.o2.co.uk/help/products-and-services/pay-as-you-go/big-bundles

https://www.o2.co.uk/rolling-plan

A rolling plan needs a monthly top up

Big bundle of can be used like standard PAYG once the bundle runs out, but will need another bundle purchasing at around six months

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

@Paul128

To answer the question, you can't on O2.

They don't provide that facility on PAYG.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

I am only  trying to find out why the PAYG balance is unexpectedly decreasing and where this information can be found.  This is not a monthly PAYG plan but a put money on as and when the balance is used up - hopefully in a few months time.  O2 monthly sims are too expensive for my main phone/usage - I moved from O2 to another cheaper provider for my sim only monthly contract last month for my new phone and wanted a PAYG is the old traditional sense of PAYG for my old phone to treat as a 2nd emergency phone.

I assume on PAYG there's not a 10p connection charge in addition to the unit price of each call/per min, text or data/mb charge - there's noting  that came with the Sim to indicate any additional charge like a connection charge - and I assume incoming calls are not charged too.

Where did you get the SIM?

When did you top it up?

So we don't know where your balance has gone.

Maybe ring PAYG customer services on 4445

As stated there is no plan that does what you want
