Off on a cruise at the end of the month sailing transatlantic to Nova Scotia then down the eastern seaboard of USA and eventually back via the Azores. Have O2 Travel as a bolt-on so that in theory allows 120mins of calls and 120 texts for a daily charge of £4.99 while in Canada or USA. There appears to be no upper limit on data for the O2 Travel Bolt on.
What I'm unclear about is what actually triggers the daily charge. Does it kick in merely by connecting to a local network when I land in Canada or USA or do I have to make a call, send a text or access the internet before the charge is triggered.
An added complication is that during our atlantic crossing(s), I will be connected to the ships satellite mobile system operated by Telenor Maritime which I believe is based in Norway. What charging systrem will O2 use in that situation. I asked O2 customer services that same question and was advised just to switch off my phone for the whole duration of the crossing - not very helpful or informative

Tks Marjo - message received loud and clear about call/data charges when connected to cruise ship satellite system. Will probably follow the switch off advice unless there is an emergency.
Still need to clarify what triggers the O2 Travel bolt-on cherge when I am in port in USA and/or Canada. Usually my phone will connect automatically to the favoured O2 partner network in that location and I will receive a "welcome" text from that provider or O2. At least that's what usually happens when I'm roaming in Europe.
Does that automatic connection trigger the O2 Travel bolt-on of £4.99 per day or do I have to make a call/send a text/or access the internet from my phone to sart the charging process.
It's just that I was in Cyprus earlier this year and was charged for the bolt-on almost every day but I'm sure I did not use the phone every day. Maybe just checking the weather was enough to trigger the charging.
