S4 suddenly drains of power in 2 hours, any ideas?

Morning all. Advice please

My Samsung Galaxy S4 has (3 times in the last 3 weeks) gone from almost full power to nil in under 3 hours over night.

Having checked the battery usage chart, over 55% of usage is "Internet". However before I settle I close all of the tabs in Internet and clear cache and other privacy settings.

It doesn't look like the famed bulging battery issue. And more interestingly almost no data is being used. In the case of last night just 16mb which is fairly usual overnight. My broadband is BT Infinity 2.

Last Sunday was the last time it happened and I did a Factory Data Reset. It happened again last night. Software is up to date and no new apps have been installed.

Anyone got a crystal ball please?

Hi

Could be a bad battery

Samsung uk support would help.

Navigate to their online page

Sometimes performing the various resets such as a hard reset option can help although ensure you make a back up.

Thanks BoB.

It's a weird one as the Internet just seems to "hang". A similar thing happened last year but TuGo was identified as the culprit but this time it is just Internet.

Hi @Anonymous

I like to try different browsers as safari for my instance can be a little glitchy ,and hang too.

Thanks BoB.

Currently I use the stock Internet icon on the device although there is Chrome available as well.

Have just spent 20 minutes on phone to Samsung who say it needs to go back to their repairs Centre but that will mean no phone for two weeks. Not happening. Can't be without phone for that length of time as I use it for emergencies too.

I can appreciate you not wanting to be without a phone

Does a friend or family member not have one knocking about in a drawer you can borrow.

Hi BoB.

I have reported it to Samsung so will monitor it for now. If it happens again then I will go for another Samsung on Device Loan Trial and see if the dates can match up (we love Toby). 😆

The alternative is next time I go to Plymouth which is a long drive from here to take it into Geek Squad at CPW (nearest authorised repairers for Samsung).

That said I am thinking of buying a spare decent handset so might get round to that and get a Moto or similar. Then I have a choice. It would be sim free as I would put a Vodafone sim in it so that if I can't get a signal (which happens in a lot of places in the South West with o2) then I have a choice. That said Vodafone and o2 are sharing masts so might try an alternative like Three
