Transferring contract

Hi,

I had a rather unhelpful experience in store today so hoping somebody could please confirm my understanding on the below before I make any decisions.

My contract is currently in my Dad’s name as my address was changing when joining O2 and wasn’t recognised by the system checks. I’ve now lived there over 2 years and I am out of contract and wish to switch this to my name.

If I wish to stay with O2, do I need to take out my own SIM Only deal (I do not wish to get a new phone) and then straight afterwards contact customer services to reassign my number and cancel the existing deal? If so, my Dad and I do not live nearby currently so is there a way we can contact separately to arrange for this as almost impossible to go to a store together.

Separately, if I wish to use another provider, could I just take out a SIM only deal elsewhere and then transfer with a PAC code?

Thanks!

@ajw5

You are correct with all assumptions.

If you and your father cannot call together, ask him to call first and give permission for you to manage the account.

You will need to pass the security checks when you call.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

You will have to take out a new SIM only in your name passing the relevant credit checks.

It is then possible to migrate your father's number onto this new account, but you would both need to be on the phone together.

You can do what you say regarding moving with a PAC code.

You could also PAC out onto a cheap PAYG with another network then PAC back in to your new account

Guide: Migration & porting into O2

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.
