Guide: Lost or Stolen O2 Device? - How to Report it is the advice to let O2 know that your phone is no longer in your possession, @Hassn32 - Guide: How to find help & contact O2 or either social media channel below should help you get in contact with O2. Once reported, you will get a replacement SIM sent to you, you just need to get hold of a cheap or perhaps a previous handset to install the SIM into in the meantime.
Good luck!

Unless you have insurance there is nothing O2 can do for you
Who cancelled the contract?
Was this O2 because you didn't pay your bill?
Perhaps you have home insurance or bank account that includes mobile insurance
You could have got a replacement sim from O2 and used it in a cheap phone
Hopefully you reported it to the police
Ultimately it is your responsibility to pay for the contract and maybe O2 can come up with a repayment plan for you
Other than that you might expect a knock from a debt recovery company
