There is no way to add an exception to the rules, and over 6months you will be charged at the prevailing rates for roaming in the EU, which are detailed here: (These rules apply across all EU operators as well).

So the number passed this time won't be closed and can I still receive calls and SMS for free?

It wont be closed and you will still be able to receive calls but these will be chargeable but receiving texts has always been free, but you will be charged to send them,.
The link I provided details all this..
I would recommend getting a local sim for data.

If it's longer than 63 Days in any 4 month period the phone will still work but you will be required to pay the surcharge rates. You will still need to follow the rules regarding top ups.
Quite frankly there is no guarantee that PAYG will work abroad once 3G is closed down on foreign networks, unless O2 allow 4G calling

@Traveller_Plus If you want to be able to keep in touch, download WhatsApp. If you use it over a Wi-Fi connection you can call, text, or video call anyone who also has the app for free.

This is correct. This is what will happen, your phone will ring, and when you answer it will disconnect the call.
