Calling 123 from an O2 phone I assumed would be free because it's a service provided by O2 for O2 customers, especially as my PAYG tariff has unlimited minutes. My remaining balance has gone down however, and I can't find my chargeable usage, but presume I've been charged for calling 123. Please confirm.

123 is the speaking clock from an O2 phone and is chargable. if you dial a chargeable number without credit you will be automatically diverted to the top up line. In your case taken from your available balance

Speaking Clock has never been free, and it used to be 20p per minute but think it could be 50p/minute nowadays..
This isn't customer services so we cant confirm anything you will need to call them, all the details are here Guide: How to find help & contact O2

The common smartphone itself has a clock on it, so why call The Speaking Clock to learn what the phone already knows...?
