New upgrade phone - new SIM

My old phone is fine but I have upgraded to a new Google Pixel 4.   I am keeping the existing O2 number.

The new phone has now arrived but I was surprised to see it came with a new SIM card.  I was expecting to transfer the existing SIM over to it.

Can anyone explain the procedure? I know I can't have two phones on the same number, so how is the new SIM card activated and the existing cancelled? 

Or do I just put the new card in the new phone and all will be automatically resilved within say, 24 hours?

@BigJohnD  If your old sim is the same size just use that one. No need to use the new sim.

If your old sim fits, just use that in your new phone.
If it doesn't then you will need to use the swap my sim process - link below.

Thanks - the old SIM went straight in and all is well.

There's a load of updating going on at the mo.

A bit disapointed in the Pixel 4 - no SDCard slot and no fingerprint recognition.  Need to check out the facial recognition but not entirely convinced by it.

Anyway, thanks for your help.  Much faster and better than O2!!
