According to the T&C's if you want to terminate the agreement early (regardless of the reason) you have to pay up the remainder of the contract.

You sign up to 18 months (for example) airtime, whether you actually use the service or not. (I didn't make 1 call or send a text last billing month, and obviously I still had to pay the bill).

If you look at it from o2's point of view, why should they lose money because you can't access their service directly because of a personal choice of yours (to emigrate).

I sympathise with you, don't get me wrong, just playing Devil's advocate here.

Might be worth giving o2 a ring though, you may be able to sweettalk them slight_smile

All contracts are country specific, so although you can use your phone in Oz you would be roaming at roaming rates.

The best policy would be to see if someone is prepared to take over your contract for the remaining month, and then look for a new supplier in Australia

O2's debt collectors can not touch you outside the UK, why worry?

I'm moving to France next year, and i'm pretty sure that if in the EU if your local councellor where you're moving can prove you're working in the country, you can have your contract cancelled.

not 100% sure about outside of the EU, but might be worth your while contacting your local council in Oz?

Hmm...big trucker is right, if you're emigrating and not bothered about having a big black mark on your UK credit file...technically you could just forget about the contract. Unethical I suppose and I wouldn't recommend it but o2 certainly won't be chasing you in Australia lol grin

I'd love to know where you heard that.

I'd also like to know why a "councellor" would be involved? What have they got to do with it, and what would you do if the country didn't have "councellors"?
