Hi,
My daughter recently upgraded to an iPhone 5c. Everything seemed to be ok in the first month up to 10th March, but on Monday 17th she received a text to say she had used all her data allowance within a week.
I contacted O2 via on-line chat, and they kindly agreed to add a 500mb bolt on free of charge.
However, on Monday, I started to keep tabs on data usage, when she had the 500mb available. When I checked this evening, there was 253mb left with a warning message that 80% of the total monthly amount was remaining.
I have checked the bill from March 11th, and I noticed that every day since she upgraded (on 17th Feb) there is at least one and sometimes two entries for idata.o2.co.uk up to 92kb each time. As of last month, the total volume for these entries was 790,274 which the bill says equates to 771.76mb.
I am totally unaware as to what this idata.o2.co.uk is for - I can only imagine it is some form of O2 information service that we were NOT made aware of, and should be switched off.
Would be grateful if anyone can give some advice on this as I refuse to pay additional money for a service we were not aware of and seems to have been sneaked in via the back door!!
Many thanks.

Had a check of the information noted above when DD finally arrived home. Interestingly, App Store showed up as having used just under 50% of the mobile data used (494mb).
I recorded the usage for each application shown then reset them all to see what ends up being used toay.
Have also switched off the mobile data, and so far today there has been no further mobile data usage, but will check again later after she has been out and no doubt facebooking/snapchatting (or whatever!!) and see if the App Store.

The setting you speak of is the APN that allows the iPhone to connect to o2's Internet.

Ask her to use wifi as often as possible and turn off mobile data in the iphones settings.
Settings, mobile,Mobile data {toggle to off} when on wifi as when the phone goes into sleep mode it auto moves from wifi to 4g/3g etc.
Remembering to toggle it back on when out of wifi range !
Look in :
Settings > Mobile and each app shows what data amount is being used.

Thanks for the quick reply. My daughter is out at the moment, but she normally uses wi-fi when at home, and never had a problem on her Blackberry. My wife has an iphone4s and has mobile data switched on but hasn't had a similar problem.
I will check the settings when she comes home, but with the best will in the world, I can't see her remembering to switch it off every time that she comes home (or is at a place with wi-fi) then switching it back on when she leaves!!!
Thanks again.

Yes that's how much data has been used to access facebook.
Looking at the settings i've said will highlight where the data is being used.
System services in the same area highlights whats being used data wise too.
Its also an idea to try to remember to reset these statistics too on her anniversary date to keep a true reading.
Settings > Mobile > Right at the bottom is 'Reset Statistics'

Very Welcome.
Other things to do are :
Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > I turn them all off to save data usage.
