My sim appears to have been disconnected. I’m waiting for a new phone with eSIM which hasn’t arrived yet. I need a phone signal

Unfortunately this is a stupid trick from O2. If you order a new sim they disconnect the existing one.
Your best bet is to go instore and see if they will sort out a plastic sim for you.

And if you can't get into MyO2 you will be unable to install the eSIM when the phone arrives.
Do as suggested and get a plastic SIM, you will save yourself a lot of future grief
