Just got started with a new S24 Ultra, which runs fine on the eSIM, which shows my number in SIM manager. However, when I insert the nano-SIM from my old S8, it recognizes O2, but says 'unknown number' and I'm restricted to emergency calls. Since the phone works just fine on the eSIM I'm not unduly concerned, but would like to know why the physical SIM won't work. (I've tried the SIM in both slots, btw, with the same result, and the phone is fully updated). Thanks for any advice or suggestions!

Did you upgrade and choose eSIM over plastic SIM, @chrimajon?

If so the plastic SIM will have been deactivated by O2 when your eSIM was brought into service with your phone number. Only one phone number per SIM on the network at any one time, regardless of whether it is an eSIM or a plastic SIM.

@chrimajon Is your nano sim associated with the same number as your esim? You can't have two sims with the same number.

When I ordered the S24 I specifically said I wanted to use my existing SIM. It looks like something got lost in translation, and I'll have to continue with the eSIM

Best way is to call into an O2 store with photo ID and they will swap you back to plastic.

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

@chrimajon If you want to go back to using a plastic sim it's easily done by going into an O2 store where they'll swap it for you. You'd want to do that anyway, as your old nano sim in your S8 wouldn't be capable of of getting 5G.

Since I'm getting 5G on the eSIM, and everything else is working okay, I'll just stay with the eSIM. Thanks for your help, however!

@chrimajon In that case, the old saying 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' applies here. Hope everything stays working. Just remember you always have the option to switch back to a plastic sim should you need to.
