I have turned on data roaming and tried both auto and manual network selections but it still says that I am out of data from MAXIS, who is the network provider. Even if accept them as ok, I still get a network error. Is there something I need to do so I can use the Internet here? Thanks

Try one one of the other Malaysian Networks, as it could be a problem with that local networks.
One thing to check is that your APN is set to mobile.o2.co.uk
You also dont say whether you are on PAYG or Pay Monthly

In addition to advice above, @Craig-Hum -
Info on roaming by selecting "Malaysia" here: https://www.o2.co.uk/international/using-your-phone-abroad
If you are Pay Monthly (Contract) then you'll need the O2 Travel Bolt-on to cap cost at £7/day you use network/data/receive or make calls, unless you have O2 Travel Inclusive Ultimate (comes with the really super-duper Plus contracts from O2!)
Do a manual search for any network, and try to connect even if it says "Forbidden", @Craig-Hum.
If you are PAYG, then no roaming rates, and expensive per-minute calls, as the link above will show you. Check no Spend Cap is set, which will prevent you making such expensive calls.
Good luck!
