does the use of maps on the phone use my data while using it

Google maps allows you to download maps whilst on wifi so you can use them offline whilst travelling so no data use at all.

Yes it can and can also be avoided.

Just the google maps that is already on the phone, i want to use the phone on my motorbike in a waterproof case.

So, i download an area of map that i am in and it still uses the map offline like a normal sat nav?
