So I did an upgrade to the iPhone 14 on the my o2 app on Thursday. I’ve put the new SIM card in but network is not available.  After finally getting through to someone I was told I needed to put my old sim into my new phone until it stops working and then I can put my new sim in.  Is this correct? How long does this usually take? and will I still have my old number? I’ve looked on the my o2 app and it still shows my pay as you go usage.

You need to ask O2 to migrate your number from your PAYG sim.

For any one reading this.  I have been told my PAYG sim will automatically transfer to the new pay monthly tariff and with it being an upgrade my number will stay the same.  My order status still says order processing, this has been raised as an issue to the technical.
Thought I’d give an update just in case it helps anyone.

The phone number on your PAYG SIM will be transferred to your new PayMonthly SIM, @Lou17 - PAYG SIMs and PayMonthly SIMS are different internally and are not interchangeable.  If you gave your O2 phone number to the agent when ordering the new iPhone on PAYM, they should initiate transfer of the number for you - otherwise, as @MI5 points out above, you need to let O2 know they have to transfer the phone number from old SIM to new SIM using the guide link he shared above.

The other way you'll know is your PAYG phone will drop out of service, and the new phone with its nice shiny new SIM installed will come up with your phone number, and you should be good to go.

Good luck!

Also make sure that any credit on your PAYG sim is transferred to your new pay monthly account.
