Cancelling a contract

Anonymous
Not applicable

My contract runs out at the end of the month. I was hoping to renew it and get a new phone as my phone doesn't do what I need it to and keeps breaking all the time.

Trouble is I'm moving abroad in 2-3 months...will I be able to cancel my contract or pause it, or is there any way I can get a new phone without having to pay a fortune? Changing to pay as you go won't allow me to get a new phone and will cost a fortune for data allowance I think.

Thanks

If you haven't given O2 30 days notice, your contract will become a one month rolling contract. This won't help you with getting a new phone, but you won't have to take out a new contract. You might want to think about buying a sim free, unlocked phone. You would then be able to use it with a local sim card wherever you're going to. Depending on your needs, not all sim free phones cost the earth. You can get a decent phone with good specs if you shop around.

there is no way to suspend a contract (unless in the armed forces going to a theatre of war)

And to cancel the contract will cost you months remaining on the contract if you start a new one

So what you're saying is, If I got an upgrade and started a new contract at the end of the month and kept it for 4 months or so I could then cancel it after 30 days notice or change to a rolling contract?

Or just buy a new phone and get over it lol.

If you upgrade it and enter into a new contract (say, for 24 months) you will not be able to cancel it early without a penalty. If you do not upgrade your current deal when it expires will go into a rolling month by month contract which you can cancel at anytime by giving 30 days notice - but that way you dont get a new phone unless youre prepared to buy one.
