I have a Nokia 700 on a monthly contract from o2. If anyone else on the forums has the same phone could they confirm what version of the Nokia Belle firmware they have please? (You can use device manager- dial *#0000# - to check)
The Nokia forums indicate that v113 is available for some users, incorporating various improvements, but my phone is running v111 with no updates showing up on any of the update methods (SW update app, Device Manager, or Nokia Suite).
If anyone has a more recent version of the firmware, either Belle FP1 or FP2, I would be interested to know.
Thanks

It has been mentioned that it is possible to "flash" the phone to a generic version but this will mean that any warranty is void and there may be issues obtaining further upgrades over the normal upgrade routes- the Product Code identifies the phone and operator so the phone looks for the correct version of the software for that product code.
Even if I were willing to risk my phone, I fail to see why I should have to do so. o2 are a service provider, supplying both the telecoms services and the equipment used to access them.
The upgrading of firmware is a common part of many modern devices, either to fix bugs or to improve functionality. Failing to permit customers to participate in these upgrades when they are made available, or at least within a reasonable timeframe, is particularly poor customer service on the part of o2. If they are unwilling to allow users of particular phones to enjoy benefits supplied to customers using other operating systems they should at least have a publicly published policy to that effect so that contracts can be entered into with full knowledge.
