Eagles

Hi guys,

Do we have any Eagles fans in the community? slight_smile The band will be touring around the UK next summer, and Priority tickets for several gigs will go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday 3rd October.

Eagles formed in California in 1971 and are one of the world's best-selling bands, having sold 150 million records worldwide. They made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998!

Find a couple of music videos below:

Have you been to any of their gigs before or listened to their music? What do you think? slight_smile

I love The Eagles but unfortunately have never been able to see them live. I wonder how they look and sound and how many band members have changed over the years. Usually the lead singer is the group....

Love them and their music. I have never seen them live though.

As for Hotel California, an iconic song and for years I never understood what it was all about Confused

I thought it was about drugs, then a mental institution and eventually the Eagles revealed the true meaning

"After almost 18 years of mystery, the band explained in an interview that the song talks about the dangers of hedonism and greed specifically as it applies to the American Dream and their own fame and fortune in the world’s eyes. (“Her mind is Tiffany-twisted / She got a Mercedes-Benz”.) The song was the Eagle’s way of looking back at their own lives and realizing how they had become trapped in this lifestyle (“We are all just prisoners here / Of our own device,” “You can check out anytime you like / But you can never leave”).

So there you have it Bow

Thanks for that @Cleoriff. I always thought it was about drugs too. Good to know what the true meaning is after all these years smiling

Haha what a great coincidence @Glory1! My favourites too. Although I suppose they are in general some of the most popular Eagles songs anyway so probably favourites of many. grin

Thanks for that snippet of info @Cleoriff, very interesting to know! slight_smile

@jonsie So I read about the band members, and there were 4 founding members when they started in 1972, Glenn Frey (guitars and vocals), Don Henley (drums and vocals), Bernie Leadon (guitar and vocals) and Randy Meisner (bass guitar and vocals). A couple of years later they added Don Felder (guitar) as the 5th member of the band. A couple of years later in 1975 Bernie Leadon was replaced by guitarist and vocalist Joe Walsh. Then in 1977 Randy Meisner left and was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit.

They disbanded in 1980 but got back together in 1994. In 2016, Glenn Frey passed away and a year later they were performing again with Glenn Frey's son Deacon, and Vince Gill.

By the way I also read (here on their website) that for the London gig on 23rd June they will be joined by special guest Sheryl Crow. slight_smile

Thanks for the additional information about the band @Marjo. I knew about Glenn Frey's passing but not that his son joined the band. Lovely continuity there; talk about keeping it in the family, nice one.

And you're right, Hotel California, of all the their hits, is the song most closely associated with the band. You hear it and immediately think The Eagles.

I think he might not be playing in the band full-time but is a guest at some of their shows @Glory1. Not sure how many of them. But yes agreed I like the continuity there too. slight_smile
