Now why can't o2 do something similar for their customers? They are just way behind in so many ways.

Yes that's what I'm on about it I pay £15 a month for 4GB plus there was an offer on at the time for an extra 1GB free every month, 250 minutes and unlimited texts.
The first month was totally free too and like @MI5 I get 0.5GB extra every 3 months.
I read this as an addition that is separate from the tariff.
Compare that to a contract I have with O2 for 12 months for £23 a month for 8GB unlimited minutes and texts with £7 a month loyalty discount, point being that it's contract that I have to pay every month or face penalty fees.
