Did you mean:

My screen keeps freezing ie no pointed cursor ...

Anonymous
Not applicable

... so I switch my laptop off at the on / off button ... & loose what I'd been typing

which must be one of the 1st things we were taught not to do when I did some word processing over 22 years ago

Any ideas ?

It's the new mouse timeout timer.
Jane do exactly this and report back..

Search Mouse in the searchbox at the bottom of the screen;
Choose Mouse & touchpad settings from the results
Choose Additional mouse options
Click the ClickPad tab, then click Settings…
Click the Advanced tab
Set the Filter Activation Time slider all the way to 0.

Is this on the PC where you are in the process of upgrading to Windows 10 @Anonymous? I thought you were having some issues with that as it hadn't worked properly...??

Your computer would not have shut down properly if you did that. You need to turn it back on and let it run the checkdisk, which it should do automatically. That sometimes clears possible faults.

Also you should decide once and for all whether you will continue with the Win 10 install or roll back to Win 7. Having a mixture of both will not be helping the functionality of your laptop I am sure..:smileywink:

It cannot possibly be running "a mix of both"
