My upgrade on O2 is due on May 20th, not sure what to get yet, considering either an Iphone 5 on a Galaxy S4.

you should do as they are saved on the sim itself, if you get an iphone 5 you need to transfer your details to a nano sim

Most O2 stores have a handy little tool for transferring contacts from SIM to SIM.

What phone do you have at the moment?

The tool is a little hit and miss when it comes to nano sims.
I work for O2 but my comments and opinions posted here are solely my own and do not reflect those of Telefonica.

If numbers are stored on the sim, the contacts or any other information will not transfer during a sim swap. Much better to open a gmail account and backup the contacts to the phone or to the PC. There are various ways of simple transfers to your new phone but come back with more details and any number of people can help you with that once we know phone types etc.
