blocking calls when i am abroad

Hello. I have recently come back off holiday and there is a charge for me receiving scam/phishing calls when abroad. How do I turn off receiving calls on my apple phone when I am abroad?  Thanks.

Use airplane mode and turn on wifi so you can still use apps when on a wifi network.

Following the advice from @MI5 Also turn off your Voicemail before you leave otherwise there can be a charge for diverting the call back to the UK if the phone at some point has detected where you are.
