I have iPhone 4s on o2 pay monthly with iPhone data bolt on.

I am having problems getting VVM to work at all, as soon as I hit the VM button in phone section it immediately dials 901 and I have to access messeages that way.  Reading forums sjows lots of people have similar issues and a number of suggested workarounds to sorting it.  I have tried resetting network settings, resetting all settings all with variouse options of switching Vm on and off and sending text message to 9011 etc..  Last night I did a complete restore and then restored my backup and as experienced by others this did  not solve the problem.

o2 on line chat resulted in me being sent the APN settings for voicemail which was already set up with the same settings anyway so no joy there.  Is restoring the phone as a new phone and setting it all up again the only option left?

You can download the your iPhone 4s version of the 5.1.1.ipsw file from osxdaily.

http://osxdaily.com/2012/05/07/ios-5-1-1-download-links/

Save it to your desktop then you can do the right hand click in itunes and choose the restore from option and select this file.

[Edit]

Warning though, I am not 100% sure this will work, but you can try if you want.

Doesn't work, tried it and also entered DFU mode to try it, both attempts failed yesterday. Saved SHSH blobs from the previous installation are required as Apple don't sign that version any more. I already have the IPSW file.

Take a look here: http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_downgrade_back_ios_5

and see the pages of comments after the article. This is the link o2 shop gave me yesterday.

Sorry, but I haven't done this sort of thing for a few years and so not up to date on what you need. I thought SHSH blobs were needed if you wanted to jailbreak and apply an unlock, but Apple have stopped the downgrading then.

What I will say is there is an outside chance that this may get fixed with a new carrier settings update as I still have a sneaky suspicion that the last ones were not applied correctly (as long as o2 side is correct). They may get pushed out after Apple release 6.1 so all may not be lost for you.

Yes that is what I planned waiting for. I read tonight that a 6.01 update is due in the next few weeks with a full 6.1 shortly after so if there is an incompatibility issue with ios6 for some handsets, then this should fix it. Also as you suggest, maybe a carrier update will come out as well.

Thanks for all your suggestions though, I do appreciate it.

Update.

Decided to get iPhone 5 so went to o2 shop for a nano sim in  readiness.  Did the sim  swap by text which only took about 1 minutre and now with the nano sim and adapter in the 4s visual voice mail is working - so it must have been an issue with the sim card.

Hope this solution may help others who may be facing the same problem
