New cheaper iPhone 5C launched

In a bid to boost the lacklustre sales of the iPhone 5C, Apple have now released a cheaper version with just 8GB of storage. Available for £429 direct sim free from Apple or for £49.99 on a £28 (+RPI whenever they feel like it) tariff on O2 (other networks are available)

Not sure what (if any) impact this will have on the sales. Price is one of the (many) things wrong with the iPhone 5c but for a lot of people 8GB of storage is going to be unworkable and the price increase up to more manageable storage options is negligible

Like you I've been watching this with avid interest.

However that price and storage capacity is still out of touch with the consumer market IMO

Sounds like desperation to move stock to me. I find it amusing that Apple thinks that £429 is cheap for a sim free trumped up iPhone 5 with a coloured plastic back cover and very little memory that can't be expanded.

Anyone purchasing a phone with this pricetag and such limited storage is going to be very disappointed in a very short period of time. I think Apple need to rethink their strategy on this as there isn't enough of a price difference to make this a viable option against the 16GB model.

Can't see 8GB being enough for anyone.

Perhaps they had a lot of faulty chips and blocked the faulty pages off.

I seem to recall that Steve Jobs said that Apple had a 5 year lead over the competition when he launched the original iPhone. To me, this launch says it all - the 5 year lead has gone, the charismatic leader has gone and now it looks like a "race to the bottom" for Apple. The next iPhone is going to have to be something special otherwise - and I hate to say it - I will be looking at what else is on offer.
