Galaxy S5 - Lollipop upgrade stuck on "Starting apps"

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

My S5 has been upgrading to Lollipop since 7:45 this morning (10:20 am now) - so over 2.5 hours.

It is a black screen with "Android is upgrading - Starting apps" shown and a spinning disc.

Has anyone had this before? Should I force a restart or just wait?

Pull the battery and try to restart normally.
If it won't restart, boot into recovery mode (Hold Vol Up + Power until it boots) then choose factory reset and restart.

I think @MI5 or @jonsie are best placed to answer your question on this.

Please hang fire until they do.

Hopefully you have done a backup recently. As @MI5 says, a factory reset is the way to go here if a normal restart fails.

Just to clarify (for me) is it 'too late' ...if the OP has not backed up before the upgrade started?? Smiley Embarassed

Thanks all. I'll go for battery pull.

I don't have a Samsung Kies backup as such. However, everything on my phone is "in the cloud" so nothing should be lost.

I hope this goes well for you. Not good losing data. 😞

Looking forward to a positive update.
