How to increase storage space on a Samsung J3(2016) phone

Anonymous
Not applicable

My phone keeps telling me that I'm running out of storage space.  I run very few apps so I find this very annoying.  O2 sold me an SD card to solve this problem but I have realised that the device is not using the SD card as it is still empty and the device does not appear to recognise the SD card.  How do I solve this?

Also, the phone is running on Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop?) which I'm told is very out of date even though I've only had the phone a few months.  How do I update this?

Any help appreciated, thanks

Updates depend on what is pushed out by the manufacturer so there may not be an update for that device.
If you can type *#1234# and let me know the csc I can check.
The sd card shone recognised automatically and be available for photos and videos storage etc so if not showing in device manage it could be faulty.

Hi, thank you for your response.  I'm afraid I'm a bit of a dinosaur and a technophobe so I don't know where to type in the code you gave me so I can let you know the csc (don't know what that is either....)!

Just dial it into the phone as if you were calling a number and then press the call key.
The codes will then appear on screen.

Out of interest @MI5 where can you check that?
And is that only for certain brands?
