I am constantly get spam text messages from O2 which I never asked for!

And it's impossible to stop. The message says "To stop texts, call 2220" but when I call that number I just get "generic error, cannot verify your number now".

HELP!

Sounds like 2220, possibly related to O2 Priority (there is an app for that, separate from MyO2 app) is a discontinued service. You can adjust your Contact settings in MyO2 to turn off receiving the SMS messages that refer you to reply to 2220, and you can reach out to O2 via Social Media, links just below this post, to actually confirm what 2220 does and if there is a plan to fix it.

Good luck, @John4422
