Hi

My daughter is about to go abroad to study in Asia for one year. She has a pay monthly contract with a few months left. She wants to keep her number and ideally switch her phone to PAYG so she can retain her phone number - using a local sim on a different phone for regular use. Will o2 allow her to switch to payg and keep her number? Any suggestions of best way of achieving this appreciated. Thanks.

Hi @Brassneck

Yes your daughter can switch to PAYG and keep her number

https://www.o2.co.uk/help/phones-sims-and-devices/how-to-keep-your-mobile-number

She will need to remember this part though

If you're on O2 Refresh you can only move to Pay As You Go once your Device Plan is paid. If you're not on O2 Refresh but still in your contract minimum term, you may need to pay a termination charge.

14 days after you move to Pay As You Go you will receive your final Pay Monthly bill. Any outstanding balance will need to be settled.

To keep the PAYG number active she will need to make a chargeable call or text once every 6 months.

Hope that helps and welcome to the forumWelcome

Hi @Brassneck,
Great advice from @Cleoriff
Also remember do not cancel DD
Until you are absolutely certain that you
are fully paid up, otherwise it could cause
huge problems.
Bye TallTrees

Thank you both. It’s a regular contract so not refresh. Will she keep the same SIM card? Also what is the best method to contact o2 to make this happen. She is not going until end of August but want to make sure it’s sorted a couple of weeks beforehand.

Hi @Brassneck

No she will have a new sim card as contract and PAYG are different.

The contact methods I posted above,(in the link about switching) Basically she needs to call 202 and they will sort it for you wink
