My account number is ******. I have just requested termination and received a STAC code. Is my contract now terminated or are there further steps?

Nope, until you use the STAC code and give it to the new provider, and they confirm it has been actioned, your contract continues as normal.
Your new provider can advise.
Also leave your direct debit in place as there will be a final bill, and also if due a refund, it can be refunded to you.

In that case your STAC has no effect, as al you have done is requested the code... nothing else happens..
follow the advice of @MI5 and cancel your contract via the links provided

Thanks to both of you but the guide provided does not list a scenario where a customer just wants to terminate the contract and not do anything with the STAC code. I'm not even sure these codes exist in the country where I am and I've had a SIM with a local provider for years now already. Is there not a merely "contractual" way to terminate in the absence of these codes? Or somebody to contact for this purpose? In the meantime I will try contacting the address you have provided, let's see if something happens like this...

The new guide also references the old guide which may be more suitable for you.
With some new rules coming into force on Monday 1st July 2019 making it easier than ever to cancel your contract and switch networks it’s probably time to update the old guide on cancellation to use the new improved process

Thanks, I will try by writing a recorded letter as suggested, let's see if that works.
