I’m currently on a rolling plan and just traveled to Spain and I’m not able to make any calls, send texts or use my data. I can’t receive calls either. For some reason, I can receive texts.
I’m new to O2 so not sure if there’s something stopping me or blocking this.
About a month ago I transferred my number from vodafone to O2 and it works fine in the UK but not in Spain.
Anyone has any suggestions?
thanks

It could be a 4g calling issue which isn't supported by o2 on payg.
Try manually searching for an alternative 3g network.

I reset all network settings and now for some reason data works but I’m still unable to make calls or text

I'm having the same problem on pay as you go. No calls out or incoming. No texts out. Only receives the O2 welcome to Spain text. Anyone have any idea? O2 make it impossible to contact them!!

Checking up. 3G in Spain is shuting down at a fast pace, region by region. As PAYG has to move off 4G and onto 3G to make calls, it simply will not work.
If it is possible,f turn off 4G and check if there is a 3G signal. If not, you are put of luck

Same advice as I gave to @JL2 above.
Contacting O2 will not help you unfortunately as currently you cannot use 4g calling on payg which is required on networks with no 3g.
Trying other available networks to see ig there is one that supports 3g still is your only option unless you can use WhatsApp to call the people you need to.

thanks for the answers. However I fail to understand how 3g or 4g would affect a phone call. Are they not to do with data? I want to make phone calls and send texts. So no data needed.

Historically all calls went over the 1g / 2g / 3g network (nothing to do with data).
Now there is the ability to use 4g for calls, however, some countries have turned off their 3g networks so calls can only go over 2g or 4g.
Not all phones will automatically use 2g so try to use the more common 4g but O2 don't allow calls over 4g on their payg tariffs.
Therefore, in short, you are stuffed unless you can find a 3g network.

I don't even have the roaming on. I'm using an iPhone 4s so not sure it has 4G. Although I just tried the SIM in an iPhone 7 and the same problem occurred! @Enlli @MI5 I'm confused about what you're saying about 3G and 4G not working with PAYG. Any chance one of you could explain a bit. Thanks again
