Aretha Franklin, the "queen of soul" who became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has died in Detroit at the age of 76.

I have just heard via BBC news that she was suffering with pancreatic cancer.

Very sad although we have been prepared for it for a few days now. I remember the days of holidaying in Newquay when Soul music was the natural progression from the groups of the sixties and early 70's. Forget disco music that was sent from hell to annoy me, my time dancing in the newquay (and Manchester) clubs was to Soul music and it's timeless. RIP Aretha, you had SOUL
