O2 website not designed for new (foreign) customers

Anonymous

This is just some general feedback on the O2 website. I'm about to move from overseas to the UK so have been looking at the mobile plans for when I get there. I found what looked to be a good O2 plan on a comparison site so came to the O2 site to have a look.

Seeing I'm not in the UK, if I try to look at any of the plan pages it just gives an error that O2 can't sell to people overseas. The website doesn't seem to cater for the ability to look at plans so when you arrive in the UK you can get one of their deals, it just thinks if you're on the site then you must be trying to buy something. Great marketing that!! I even tried to write a feedback email saying it was a #### solution but I can't do that either because I'm not an existing customer!!

End result is I'm going to be in the UK in a few weeks and O2 is not an option for a mobile phone provider. But obviously they don't need us #### foreigner customers anyway!!

Incidentally, if you wanted to use the contact form, you would just click the I'm not an O2 customer. . . box.

Ok, so O2 is a special company and people not in the UK aren't able to view details of plans?? I've done a search of the forums for terms such as "foreigner contract" or "overseas view website plans" and I'mm still baffled how this is a legitimate requirement?? The fact that it is well known makes it even more baffling as I'm not sure how any sales or marketing teams would allow there work to be restricted in this way as the only outcome is less sales. Remember, I'm not talking about actually buying anything yet, just viewing the plan details to decide whether to sign up with O2 once I'm living and working in the UK. Never mind, there are plenty of other providers out there who don't classify their publicly available plan details as Top Secret.

And yes, I did miss the not an O2 customer option on the email submission...

You can also leave feedback on the website here and you can again do this without being a current O2 subscriber.

to add to this thread- I am a UK customer but travelling abroad - I want to examine shop options for upgrades etc - working away from home I have plenty of time on my hands - just because I am connected via a foreign link does not mean I am not a UK customer - in this case I am a UK customer temporarily not in the UK. (ie for a day or 2 at a time)

To summarise for those not able to find the threads using the search.
O2 is only licensed to operate in the UK.
As a fraud prevention measure, which the card companies insist on.

Its not a big deal, as you won't be able to do anything until you get back to the UK, when the tariffs/offers may have changed anyway.
Its not like O2 are the only mobile company to do this.

Even europe wide retail sites like play.com , when you click on a handset it will tell you that you have to be in the UK.
