Hi All,

Today I received a call from Akbar claiming he is working with Telefonica O2. He said he got my details from Job Today as O2 has a premium account there.

He is offering a Mystery Shopper job with these claims:

  • One day training and I can get GBP100. Training includes 2 stages:
    • Stage 1: He guided me through a phone call to purchase a pay monthly plan. (Samsung Z Fold2)
    • The phone will be delivered to me tomorrow and I had to return the phone for O2 to cancel the plan and pay me the salary & upfront cost refund.
    • Stage 2: He will ask me to take a note on the shopping experience and shop different phone independently.
  • He requested my ID and NI copy to proceed for the training.
  • 1 shop equals to 30 mins-1 hour job with salary GBP 12 per hour
  • During non-COVID 19 period, normally Mystery Shopper will be visiting different stores across London.
Caller details:

Name: Akbar
Phone Number: 07508514038

I asked him about his credentials on the company (such as formal email from O2, etc) and he feels offended thus decided to not proceed with my training.

Does anyone get the same call? I have reported this to spam@o2.com , anything else I should do?

Thank you and Season's Greetings!

@Teatime

Other ways to report here including Action Fraud website
https://www.o2.co.uk/help/safety-and-security/phishing-and-smishing-advice

If you gave any bank details, contact your bank asap.

Change your O2 password and any other accounts that use the same login details.

I fear  they may now have more than enough info to clone you so be on the lookout for any other suspicious activity.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
Please select the post that helped you best and mark as the solution. This helps other members in resolving their issues faster. Thank you.

Hi, this is probably a genuine o2 call. It is normal in 2020 for o2 to scam customers
