My bank didn't like TuGo when activating new card!

So like an idiot I lost my debit card last week, and my replacement arrived today. Anyway instead of receiving a pin through the post I opted for the text service once my card arrived..

So far so good. I was indoors and I don't get a signal so always use TuGo for everything. I had to text a password to the bank to get the pin number texted back. I did it, and correctly but it wouldn't recognise it, so I called up.

The staff reset the system and had me retry, this happened 4 times. I'd wandered out back where I do get a signal whilst on the phone, and eventually I asked was TuGo the issue and tried normal texting..

Turns out even the banks cs agent and manager didn't know these things don't work if using TuGo, but worked fine over normal text. Just to clarify, the password was being entered correctly each time it was definitely using TuGo that's the issue.

So both me and my bank have learned something new, and I thought it might be useful to someone else if they ever find themselves I the same situation hence this thread.

At least I'm now able to use my account again, it's the worst being without access to your own funds especially through your own stupidity as well 😠

@Bambino and there's the answer! Thank you for that, what's odd though is that the bank had no clue (even if I should've) you'd think this would have happened before?

Anyhoo, mystery solved so nice one!

It really does show I should fresh up on the t&cs though....

Short codes have always been a no-no with TuGo. We have requested this to be a feature many times but it seems to be a security issue.

Thing is it wasn't a short code, it was a mobile type of number (my bank offer both a short code and normal mobile number for most things) I don't mind adding the number. 07786 208263 @jonsie

I did try the short code first, TuGo just pops up with unable to use short codes but I thought the mobile number would've been fine... The t&cs are obvs bang on as it just wouldn't recognise my password, at all!

Very few people read T&C's. I only knew it was there because this issue has come up before. I'm as bad as everyone else is about not reading the small print.

Tugo won't receive any security codes as there is no guarantee that it is the clients phone receiving the code.
