Dreadful Signal

Anonymous
Not applicable
In my home postcode o2 state "good indoor and outdoor" 2g coverage. I get intermittent service.

Today I spent half the day in Dunster in Somerset. Absolutely no signal at all. When I get home I looked at the coverage checker and it reads " good indoor and outdoor" 2g coverage.

This is now happening more and more often. So what is the problem? Why are o2 not sorting out the basics?

Across the social network I see thousands of posts criticising o2 but rarely see anything re Vodafone, Three or EE. Clearly this is an o2 issue.

Thoughts on a postage strap please

Hi, can you test the sim in a different phone to see if you're still having network issues?

If so, your sim might need replacing, but if you will get better coverage on a different phone that could mean your current phone is faulty

Coverage checkers are an estimation and cannot take into account terrain, buildings, etc.
I do find that, when in a 2G area only, switching 3g off helps get a better 2g signal, unfortunately there are many 2g only areas with O2 but they have a commitment to improve with the deal they got on the 4g band frequencies so hopefully we'll see improvements all over.....

Hi,

Download the 'MyNetwork' App and report the mast is one avenue.

Also picking up a new blank sim from your local o2 store and ask them to perform the sim swap may help. Takes approx 24 hours to settle.

Or switch to 2g in the phones settings to see if that helps.

Alternatives such as Tugo for pay monthky or whatsapp that run off home broadband wifi is an interim alternative too.

To add a little balance I do see similar posts on other network forums.

No network offers a fault free 100% coverage service.    😞

Hi adriannadavey

We both have S4's and it was the same for us both. So I assume (rightly or wrongly) that it is unlikely to be a sim issue.

That said. Due to the dreadful signal we get with o2 I am planning to get a cheap payg on another network as an emergency backup so will try that.

Thank you

If you got the phones though o2 then you can have them unlocked to use other network sims in them.

Its free for contract customers.

Hi MI5

Thanks for your input. My experience is that turning off 3g makes no difference at all.

In Dunster today there was absolutely no signal but the coverage checker States good indoor and outdoor (we were outdoor) and there were no network issues.

In relation to my home County (North Devon) almost all of it is 2g only IF there is a signal at all.

O2 really need to sort this out.

I agree. O2 is not good in that (beautiful) part of the country 😞
