'Your SIM just sent a text message' repeatedly appearing on Iphone 3gs

I am on an o2 Simplicity tariff and my old phone died a couple of weeks ago. So I put my SIM into my boyfriends old iPhone and it worked fine up until now.

All of a sudden a blank screen pops up for a few seconds saying 'Your SIM just sent a text message'

The message appears quite freqently now and not only is it pretty annoying, but I hope I'm not being charged for these phantom texts!

Anyone know how to solve this problem? Looking around online some people have suggested a solution via Settings>Phone>SIM Applications. However the only thing I found in here was a 'get settings' button which does nothing when pressed.

Perhaps cleaning your sim and or getting a blank sim to replace your current one may help.

There are no settings within the 3gs that would send an automatic text message.
